Review #067 – Star Fox (2026)

I’m a little disappointed this isn’t a new, completely original Star Fox game, but hey! I’m glad they at least nailed what a faithful remake should be. It definitely looks like a new game—especially with its animatronic-esque aesthetic update—but it’s still very much the same 1997 game at its core. Star Fox 64 was awesome back in the day though, and the shooting is still super fun today.

Although the base game is ostensibly the same they did include some improvements that make it feel more modern. I recall having a hard time figuring out how to acces certain routes but now the game just straight-up tells you, which is great. New between-mission cutscenes give some nice context to the narrative, too.

The game's audiovisual update is certainly the biggest change here and while it looks sharp I'm still not entirely in love with the result. I think I prefer the Smash-like stylized look and some of the voices sound a little off. But I'm glad they're trying something different, ultimately. There was clearly a lot of care put into this remake though, and it just makes me want a new Star Fox game even more now. I think it's time, Nintendo.
