Review #066 – High On Life 2

Review #066 – High On Life 2

It’s definitely improved in some ways but I don’t think High on Life 2 does enough to attract a larger audience beyond the people who enjoyed the first game. It has its share of fun and humorous moments but you really have to accept the game’s unremarkable gunplay and crude comedic tone to get the most out of it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if most people’s roadblock will again be the talking guns who, like the first game, can be quite verbose at times. Their quips can be pretty amusing, sure, but some jokes don’t land very well or go on for way too long—something that can said about the game’s general humour, too.

Ultimately the game is fun to play with decent level design and creative set pieces. The new skateboarding mechanic is surprisingly fluid and well implemented. It is a buggy game though which did hinder my enjoyment at times. It probably didn’t have the biggest of budgets but I wish its underlying tech could’ve been ironed out a little more before release.
