Review #068 – Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced
I’ve somehow managed to finish almost every Assassin’s Creed game and Black Flag has always stuck out as one of my favourites. The beautiful Caribbean setting, intense ship combat, and swashbuckling story were a nice breath of fresh air after the way-too-serious tone and disappointing narrative of Assassin’s Creed III the year before.
I’m glad to say that the refined visuals, updated combat, and modernized control scheme make Resynced a great way to experience Edward’s journey again or for the very first time. And while the general action and mission structure definitely feel like they’re from a bygone era, it’s cool to see how the series has evolved since the early 2010s.
The additional extras are pretty good, like the new crew mates that come with their own set of fun loyalty quests and ship upgrades. And even though it does add more content to an already-hefty open world game, it’s nice to finish the entire thing in only 30-ish hours, rather than feeling overbearing (looking at you, Valhalla). Not including the Freedom Cry expansion is a little head-scratching, though.
