Review #019 – Blade Chimera
Blade gunner.

You can amalgamate most exploration-based platformers into one of two categories: the Metroid-style shooter or the Castlevania-adjacent hack and slash. Blade Chimera — with its engaging dual melee and long-ranged combat system — answers the question of, “why not simply both?”
It’s a tight adventure with beautiful pixel art, fun boss fights, compelling story, and very strong combat. It’s super satisfying killing a demon with your ghost sword before shooting another one off in the distance immediately after — it makes you feel like a complete badass.
It doesn’t take a long time to finish and is a little less exploration-focussed than games of this type. There are side quests but only a handful are worth doing. I also found there to be a little too many long, enemy-laden corridors. Otherwise the game is a blast to play and is absolutely worth checking out if you’re a search-action enthusiast.
