Review #021 – Guns of Fury

It may be a little reductive to describe it this way but Guns of Fury is essentially a Metal Slug-themed Metroidvania game. If that rad combo sounds interesting to you — which, let’s be honest, it probably should — then I suggest checking it out yourself.

The retro-inspired, side-scrolling action feels great — I really like the wide array of weapons that can range between automatic assault files, flamethrowers, and missile launchers. There's a decent collection of fun abilities too, like the sniper rifle that can shoot distant switches through walls.

My only gripe is the map layout which has a little too much backtracking. There is a limited fast travel system and you can make markers on the map screen, but I did get stuck occasionally without knowing where to go next. Nothing really stopped me from fully enjoying the game though and, as cliché as it sounds, it’s definitely recommended for fans of the genre.
