Review #035 – Squeakross: Home Squeak Home

Combining Picross-style puzzle solving with a cozy rodent-themed home management sim is a great idea, but Squeakross wasn’t really able to sink its teeth into me. It’s adorable and well made, but its enjoyment really depends on much you like Picross and how many puzzles you’re willing to solve in order to fully decorate your rodent’s home.

My biggest issue is how every single piece of furniture & accessory is locked behind a puzzle. Do I want a full living room and kitchen set for my rat’s apartment? Yeah! What about some novelty scarves or hats? Hell yeah! Do I want to solve a puzzle for each item individually, though? Well… not really.

Don’t get me wrong—I like Picross puzzles! But it really started to wear thin for me once I realized there isn’t much beyond completing puzzles and slowly unlocking catalogue items. It made me wish it had another mechanic or something to keep things a little more interesting.
