Review #031 – Revenge of the Savage Planet
An equal sequel?

It doesn’t necessarily raise the bar but Revenge of the Savage Planet does feature some new ideas that makes it feel like less of a retread of the first game. Take the game’s perspective — it’s behind the back now rather than first person, allowing you to see your character’s silly outfits and slapstick animations at all times.
Journey to the Savage Planet had a neat Metroid-like progression and while Revenge also does to an extent, it leans more towards larger, explorable, open world-ish areas. You’ll still complete quests, do lots of scanning, and research new suit upgrades, but the game has a less-linear feel. At one point my co-op buddy and I had what felt like 20 different multi-planet things on the go at once.
This revised format isn’t better than the first game per se, but it’s engaging in a semi-divergent way. We did run into some progression and visual bugs occasionally, but they were nothing we couldn’t laugh about later. It’s just a fun adventure with colourful art, kooky humour, and good pacing. Racoon Logic — please make more of these!
