Review #020 – Dragon Age: The Veilguard
The next page for Dragon Age.

Considering how tumultuous its development supposedly was — plus the fact that BioWare’s last couple of games weren’t super well received — it’s nice that The Veilguard, despite some occasional quibbles, has turned out perfectly fine. Just don’t expect the series to be fully back to its deep role playing roots.
It’s massive (took me 65 hours!), but the game feels smaller and more concentrated than the open worlds of Inquisition. Combat remains action-focussed — you can still assign abilities and pause mid-battle, but it definitely feels more like an action game with RPG elements than something fully tactics-based.
I enjoyed the story — the ending sequence is especially epic — but not every character feels fully realized. Some are great, no doubt, this is no Mass Effect though. It took a while to get through as some parts feel longwinded, but no section is particularly rough. It doesn’t hits the highs of Origins but luckily never hits the lows of Dragon Age II.
