Review #013 – Bear & Breakfast

Despite a handful of pesky quirks, Bear & Breakfast is a fairly successful, cozy, and accessible management sim. Definitely don’t expect a finely polished game here — the user interface experience is especially rough in spots — but the engaging hotel management aspects highly outweigh most of its problems.

You start out with basic duties like building bedrooms and managing a few guests but you’ll soon find yourself running multiple hotels at once. It doesn’t have any real fail states so you can leisurely manage at your own pace. It can get a little tricky once it starts introducing things like cooking, but it always has ways to mitigate any friction.

I played through the entire game with my wife and it was a very wholesome, mellow experience… for the most part. I did run into a handful of menu navigation bugs, crashes, and extended load times which could interrupt an otherwise easygoing time. But, again, the gameplay is captivating enough to gloss over any of its blemishes.
