Review #009 – Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom
Taxi fair.

A strong start that goes from enjoyable to frustrating fairly quickly. I like its low-poly aesthetic & goofy vibes and the first couple of hours are legitimately fun, but once it starts demanding very precise platforming the game becomes a bit of a slog.
I found the controls to be the most irritating part because not only are they not super intuitive, but I found that some mechanics just didn’t work sometimes for no apparent reason. This was especially annoying on later levels where missing one jump will results in an instant fail state. Checkpoints, or lack thereof, are not in the most ideal of places, either.
The game has this interesting mix of N64-style platforming and Crazy Taxi-adjacent driving and I do think it’s a great concept, but the results are mixed. Some levels are great and feature some fun moments while other stages are a drag to play. It’s just a game that didn’t end up clicking with me.
