Review #008 – Europa

Did Europa draw the short straw?

Review #008 – Europa

Europa is very vibes-heavy with a stunning, colourful, Studio Ghibli-adjacent art style. I can’t say the moment-to-moment gameplay engaged me all that often as both the platforming and puzzle solving are rudimentary, but it’s very well made and the artists clearly cooked. It’s a really beautiful game.

Throughout its brief 3-hour adventure you’ll upgrade your character’s floating ability by finding crystals scattered around the world that can allow you to fly higher and float longer. You can also find other collectibles and diary entries which add some context to the world but other than occasionally having to explore some abandoned structures the game is very linear.

I definitely wish the game had something else to do because it’s a little boring — not broken or actively frustrating, just generally unexciting. But again, it does have great vibes so it’s a pleasant experience. Just don’t expect anything particularly thrilling.
